Jamie Shelden steps down from the CIVL Bureau
Jamie Shelden has decided to step down from the CIVL Bureau. Jamie has been a Vice-President of CIVL for over 14 years. As well as serving as chair of the HG Committee, she has contributed greatly to the evolution of CIVL overall. In particular, she has driven much of the framework and professionalization of the Jury and Steward roles. Jamie has flown class 1, 5 and 2 hang gliders, been a member of multiple World Championship teams, been Class 5 National Champion over several years, served as a HG instructor, and organized many competitions. It is rare to find someone with her mix of deep knowledge and love of the sport, sharp critical thinking skills, and the ability to see things from both the pilot’s and organizer’s perspective. Combine all that with a strong work ethic and being someone people truly enjoy working with (particularly all of us on the Bureau), and it’s clear how special Jamie is.
She will be sorely missed. You may see her at events in the future as she’s agreed to serve as a juror when needed, and we in the Bureau will still be going to her for advice and her expertise, whether she wants us to or not… we still know how to find her.
For her many years of dedicated service to FAI and CIVL, and to the Hang Gliding community worldwide, Jamie is being awarded the FAI Air Sports Medal.
