39th World Gliding Championships is now underway at Tabor Airfield Czechia

The 39th World Gliding Championships is now underway at Tabor Airfield Czechia with 115 pilots competing in three classes. Several past World Gliding Champions are testing their skills against young champions including Stefan Langer and Matthew Scutter for the top accolades in gliding.

The championships are being held from 7 - 21 June. The first two days were no fly days, leaving ten possible flying days to decide the next World Gliding Champions in 15m, Standard and Club Classes.

Stanislaw Biela and Gintas Zube Clinch Top 2 Places at SGP Poland to Qualify for Series 12 SGP Final

The final qualifying event in the Sailplane Grand Prix Series 12 was held at Nowy Targ Airfield, Poland 24 - 30 May. SGP Poland had a star studded list of 20 pilots including several World Gliding Champions, among them Poland’s Sebastian Kawa. Sebastian has won 38 World Gliding Championship medals including the top place as SGP Series 10 in 2021.

After five closely run races in Tatra Mountains, with one race to go, any of the top five pilots were well placed to win the contest. With the final two places for the SGP Final at Saint Auban up for grabs, the pressure was on.

Sophie Curio to head to Czechia for the FAI Women’s World Gliding Championships 2025

After seven consecutive racing days at the 20m 2 Seat & Club Class Nationals in Temora, Australia, Sophie Curio was crowned the new Australian Club Class Champion. She flew her LS4a consistently, winning one day, taking second place on three days and third place, once. This was more than enough to put her at the top of the table, beating Jack Hart in his ASW20b into second place.
