116th FAI General Conference 2022: Highlights

145 registered participants joined the 116th FAI General Conference which was held online between 1-3 November 2022.

This was the third FAI General Conference consecutively held online, and 78 delegates from 52 members and 12 commissions representatives.

The conference took place over three days and included the annual FAI Awards, broadcast in an online video on Tuesday 1, the first day of the conference. The video remains accessible online.

Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz

Dietrich Mateschitz - the co-founder of Red Bull - died last weekend aged 78 after battling a long illness. FAI joins the air sports community in expressing condolences to Mateschitz’s family, friends and colleagues.

The Austrian businessman created the well-known energy drinks company in the 1980s and the brand went on to sponsor many sports teams and events. As a huge fan of motor sports, he purchased a Formula One car racing team in 2004 and went on to enjoy incredible success.

FAI General Conference 2022 to take place online

The 116th FAI General Conference, scheduled from 1st to 3rd November 2022, will take place online.

The event was originally planned to be organised by FAI Member the Aero Sports Federation of China (ASFC) and the Wuhan Municipal Government in Wuhan. However, the continuing uncertainties posed by the pandemic led the FAI Executive Board, in agreement with ASFC, to reconsider and opt for a virtual event.
