Congratulations to the new champions: Results of 12th FAI World Paramotor Championship

It was always going to be a tough ride for paramotor pilots to challenge the French on their home territory, and indeed, the results of the 12th FAI Paramotor Championships reflect the domination of the French team throughout the competition in Chambley, France.

Fifteen other nations travelled to France to battle against the home team from 23-30 August, with 81 pilots participating across three classes: a strong turnout. The overall team winners were France, with Qatar the silver medallists and Czechia in bronze medal position.

French father-daughter team Fabrice and Oriane Breuzard won the two-person trike PL2 class, although not far behind them in points was the Czech duo Lubos Halama and Anna Halamova.

Among the top ten pilots in the solo trike launched PL1 class, the top six were French: Michaël Merle clinched the top spot ahead of team mates Frédéric Mallard in second and Thibault Laine in third.

It was a different story in the foot-launched PF1 class however, with young Italian pilot Andrea Cecchetto knocking French pilot Nicolas Aubert into second place. Cecchetto's team-mate Pasquale Biondo, gold medal winner in Brazil 2022, took third place.

In a message of joyful appreciation to his family, friends and sponsors on social media, 21-year-old Cecchetto said, “Thanks to everyone who believed in me all these years.”

The weather threw some challenges in the form of a rainy day and some windy conditions, but organisers managed to complete the balance of tasks in the three categories of navigation, precision and economy. The fun-to-watch Bowling Landing featured three times: the pilot must climb to 500 ft, cut their engines then and glide down towards the landing where between 5-10 "bowling pins" are placed along a line. The pilot must knock down as many as possible.

Speaking from Chambley, FAI Microlight and Paramotor Commission (CIMA) President, Wolfgang Lintl, commented: "This was a great event with a high attendance rate and many happy winners. Particularly good to see was a strong number of young pilots and female participants."
