Over 145 participants were warmly welcomed to the 117th FAI General Conference, which took place in Dayton, Ohio, USA on 26 and 27 October 2023.

The return to an in-person conference was much appreciated by delegates after three consecutive online conferences that the FAI General Conference was held in person. Delegates from 45 Members and 12 Commissions were present or represented. They were welcomed by the hosts, USA’s National Aeronautic Association (NAA).  

Traditionally, the FAI General Conference is preceded by the annual FAI Awards Ceremony, and awardees were delighted to receive their certificates and medals in person, on 25 October. At the event, esteemed personalities who have significantly contributed to air sports were honoured with prestigious FAI Medals and Diplomas.

The President, the Secretary General and the Commissions presented their reports, which included reviews of major projects and achievements within the Federation and the sporting or technical commissions.

FAI President David Monks said:

“I was very pleased to see so many members had made the effort in travelling so far to the 117th FAI General Conference in Dayton, Ohio. The bodies of our Organisation were able to share their reports on their activities of the previous year with the Members and attendees.

"I would like to thank all those at the conference for their contribution in the shaping of 2024 and look forward to meeting you all again in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next year.”

Conference Sessions - Highlights

FAI Code of Ethics

The Conference approved the updated FAI Code of Ethics. It will come into force on 1 January 2024.

Membership and Budget

The 2024 Budget and Scale of Membership were approved by the Conference. 

Elections

The Statutes and By-Laws Working Group and Active Members Representatives for the FAI Air Sport General Commission (CASI) were voted in as Belgium, Brazil, France, Great Britain, Germany and Italy.

Future General Conference

The 118th FAI General Conference will take place in from 20 to 21 November 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
