Looking Back to the Future: FAI E-Drone Racing World Cup season 2025
The FAI E-Drone Racing World Cup season 2025 will kick off with the first event called '2025 FAI Legacy e-Drone Racing World Cup' - a nostalgic return to a historic track. The aim? To find out how much drone racing has evolved since 2018!
The first event in the FAI E-Drone Racing World Cup 2025 takes place on 16 August, and will use the very same track as used by the inaugural FAI World Drone Racing Championships in Shenzen, China in 2018 (won by Rudi Browning from Australia).
Seven years ago, drone racing was an emerging sport and since then, FPV technology has advanced at a lightning fast rate. FAI E-Drone Racing World Cup organisers EreaDrone wanted to take the opportunity to see how E-Drone pilots got on when they hit this legendary track.
Forty-one pilots have already registered from around the world, ready for a slice of the action, and are already training on the track, but there is still time for pilots to register.
How to participate
Registration remains open until the 15 August 01:59 Europe/Paris time (UTC+02:00), so there are a few days left to try out the track, register and get qualified for the competition on 16 August.
For this event, the drone is restricted to one model (standard), with its default settings. Just as in 2024, open registration and qualification will allow pilots to race at home whenever they want. But unlike last year, the competition stages will last 1 day (usually a Saturday) where both stages of competition will happen. There will be 8-person heats for the first stage, and 4-person heats for the second stage.
Pilots unable to participate in this event do not need to worry - their final score will be calculated with their best event placements across the 2025 World Cup series.
From 13:00 UTC on 16 August, the competition stage will be live-streamed on Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, and directly on EreaDrone's website.

About the FAI E-Drone Racing World Cup Series
The FAI E-Drone Racing World Cup began in 2024. Pilots can participate from home ('Remote' piloting) with a game controller on a Windows computer with a stable internet connection, having registered and logged in via the EreaDrone website.
The best placed pilots in the World Cup ranking will be awarded the title of 2025 E-Drone Racing World Cup champion, and FAI Aeromodelling Commission (CIAM) medals and diplomas will be awarded to the three best placed.
For the seven events in the 2025 World Cup, a few will revisit and celebrate notable tracks in the sport's history, but for other events, new and original tracks will be used.
