Celebrating ‘Women with Wings’: FAI Young Artists Contest Theme for 2025 announced
Creative youngsters will explore the theme of ‘Women with Wings’ for the 2025 FAI Young Artists Contest, harnessing ideas of exploration, liberty and courage as they celebrate the vital force of female aviators through their artworks.
The annual competition which has been running since 1986 is open to youngsters between the ages of six and 17, with FAI gold, silver and bronze medals and diplomas presented to the top three artists in each of the three categories which are as follows:
- Group I - Junior Category (ages 6-9)
- Group II - Intermediate Category (ages 10-13)
- Group III - Senior Category (ages 13-17)
Young artists must first enter a competition at national level, organised by their FAI Member. National winners then go through to a final international judging stage.
In the 2024 contest, winning artists from Japan, USA and China were inspired by the theme ‘air sports for a peaceful world’.
2025 Theme: Women with Wings
Since the earliest days of aviation, young people have been inspired by people whose adventurous spirits have soared into the skies above us.
Stories of remarkable bravery and world firsts in the air and in space have long captured the imaginations of children across the planet. The glory of record-breaking long-distance flights, magnificent skydiving formations, perfect precision landings and gold medal wins will long continue to enthuse youngsters to take to the skies themselves and experience the challenges and the camaraderie of air sports.
Particularly inspiring for young girls are the tales of women who have defied society’s expectations to take to the air and prove that the sky is a place for everyone.
For the 2025 FAI Young Artists Contest, we want youngsters to focus their creativity on these incredible Women with Wings, who unite in a world where the skies are a canvas of peace and friendship.
Using pencils, crayons, pens or paint, artists can be inspired by Women with Wings to show how women from all walks of life find liberty and inspire others through their love for flight.
How to participate
The FAI Young Artists Contest is first run at a national level: participating FAI Members organise a contest in their country, from which the three best artworks in each of the three age categories are selected. The national winning artworks must then be sent by the FAI Members to the FAI Secretariat by 1 April 2025. These are submitted to the FAI jury, which decides on the final overall winners in late Spring 2025.
