Well attended by the people of Ignalina, Lithuania and several high-ranking officials the 15th FAI European Microlight Championship was formally opened on Saturday, 10 August by the President of the FAI Microlight and Paramotor (CIMA) President Wolfgang Lintl.

41 teams from eight countries are ready to compete in the far eastern corner of Lithuania. It is the first time, that this country will run a CIMA Category 1 (World or Continental) event. During the next 8 days, the teams have to fly navigation, precision and fuel economy tasks, set by the competition director Povilas Kalinauskas.
